Vernon Hills High School Concert

The VHHS Symphony Orchestra is having a concert on Monday, December 14th at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium.  Please consider going to this concert.  They will be performing the music that they will play for the Midwest Clinic (conference).

Hawthorn Middle Schools/VHHS Festival

The 7/8 Orchestra will be performing at the VHHS Orchestra Festival with Middle South and the high school students on Thursday, November 12th at 7:30 p.m. in the VHHS auditorium.  All students are welcome to attend and hear what's to come.  There is an admission fee.  7/8 students have a permission form for the rehearsal on the morning of the 12th.  Please get that back to me as soon as possible.

Practice Time!

Orchestra students are off to a good start. Let's keep it up by practicing at home at least 4 days a week for 30 minutes at a time. Everyone has practice sheets with assignments. Make sure to get everything learned by the next lesson.

Welcome Back!

Welcome to a new year in Middle School orchestra! Handbooks have been passed out and part of it needs to be turned in to Mrs. Greenwell. Make sure your student is practicing now. 7th and 8th graders have a concert in November and all orchestra students have their first playing tests next week. We have 68 students in the 7/8 group this year which is up from 54 last year. Remind students to get to class on time, be ready to play, and quiet when it's time. Cello and bass students can use a school instrument and not carry theirs to and from school. Rental forms will be passed out tomorrow (9/4). They are $50 for the year.

End of Year

School is coming to an end and the 6th and 7th graders are finished with performances. 8th graders will be performing at their graduation. I will give them the info as soon as I get it. Keep playing this summer! You can still sign up for camp and I can give you information about private lessons if interested.

Concert next week!

Our final concert will be on the open house night, Thursday, May 14th at 6:45 p.m. Students will need to arrive by 6:00 p.m.

Congratulations 7/8 Orchestra!

The 7/8 orchestra did a great job at IGSMA Organizational on Saturday, March 14th. They received a 1st rating. The band and chorus also received a 1st rating. Good job everyone!

Concert and Contest approaching!

The 6th graders and the Chamber orchestra will be combining with the Middle South groups to perform together at Middle North on Wednesday, March 11th at 7:00 p.m.

On Saturday, March 14th, the 7/8 orchestra will be performing in front of 3 judges and an audience for a rating and comments. We're hoping to have a big audience to perform for so come out to Lake Zurich Middle School North and hear them play. We will be performing an arrangement of Smetana's 'Moldau', an Irish piece called 'Ancestors', and an arrangement of Dvorak's 9th Symphony. Mr. Lestina from VHHS came out to hear them today and gave some good feedback.

All of the kids have been working hard. Be proud of them!

Field Trip Forms Due

Field trip forms for our trip to see the Milwaukee Symphony on February 5th have been passed out and are due by Tuesday, January 13th.  It is important that these are turned in on time since we have to reserve tickets.
